11.11Maintenance

Chapter 11 · Manufacturing·2 min read·3 topics

Keeping machines running is part of production, so maintenance lives next to the work centres: Manufacturing → Maintenance. Equipment is a work centre or a fixed asset (Chapter 12); a work centre that is an asset points at it, and everything done on the centre is logged on the asset.

#Plans

A plan says how often something is serviced. Plans → New plan: Name *, Equipment *, Task, Every n days (counted from Last done, with Raise the request (days before) as the lead time) or n hours of use (the time booked on the centre's job cards, section 11.6 — so a plan by hours needs a work centre), Assigned to and Active. The list shows each plan's next date, or hours used of the hours allowed, and the open request when one exists.

Every day the run checks the plans and drafts one preventive request per plan that is due (within its lead time, or past its hours), for the assignee, who is notified. It never drafts a second request while one is open, and it never starts or closes anything. Check plans now runs the same check on demand.

#Requests

A request is one job: preventive (from a plan) or corrective (a breakdown, raised with New request: Title *, Equipment *, Kind, Priority, Assigned to, Due, Description). Requests are numbered MR-… (Settings → Transaction Numbering) and move New → In progress → Done, or Cancelled. Requests lists them, with a board by status.

On the request page: Start opens the job (a corrective request starts counting downtime from then), Close request records the Work done, Performed by, Cost and whether to Capitalise the cost, ends the downtime and, when the equipment is an asset, writes the asset's maintenance log (Chapter 12.7) — the same entry Log maintenance on the asset page makes. Closing a plan's request resets the plan's clock and schedules the next service. Cancel request keeps the record without logging anything.

#A work centre that is down

While a corrective request is open on a work centre, the centre is down: the Work Centres list shows Down with the request number, its job cards say so, and a job card cannot be started there — the message names the request to close. A card already running can still be stopped and its time booked. The work order page flags orders routed through a centre that is down, and the Manufacturing overview lists the centres and the open orders routed through them. A preventive request never takes a centre down.
