8.7Bank rules

Chapter 8 · Banking·1 min read·1 topic

Bank rules categorise incoming lines automatically.

  • Rules run in order — lower Order numbers run first; the first matching rule wins.
  • A match shows as a Rule match suggestion in Pending review and pre-fills the inline category, so you confirm with Post.

#Creating a rule

Banking → Bank Rules → New rule (or Create rule from a bank line, which pre-fills the conditions):

  1. Rule name * (AWS hosting → Cloud expense) and Order.
  2. Apply when — restrict to a Bank account (or Any account) and a Transaction type (Any, Deposit, Withdrawal), then add Conditions: a Field (Description, Payee, Amount), a Comparator (contains, does not contain, is exactly; for amounts equals, greater than, less than and their or-equal forms) and a Value. Choose whether the rule needs Match ALL conditions or Match ANY condition.
  3. Then assign — Category type * (Expense, Income, Transfer), To account * (filtered to that type), and optional Payee and Memo to stamp on matched lines.
  4. Click Create rule.

The rules list shows Order, Name, Apply if, Assigns and Payee; click a rule to edit it.
