The overview follows the budgets in force today — approved budgets whose dates include today. The company-wide budget shows first; when there are department or project budgets too, a selector at the top switches between them. (Their figures are never added together: a department's spending is also part of the company's.)
- Headline metrics for the selected budget:
- Budget to date — the budget for every period that has started (the current one in full), and the budget for the whole year.
- Spent to date — actual spending in those periods, and how far over or under plan that is.
- Committed — money promised but not billed yet: the unbilled part of open purchase orders and the unordered part of approved purchase requisitions.
- Left this year — the year's budget less what is spent and committed, with the share used and how much of the year has gone.
- Year-end forecast — spending by the end of the year if it carries on at the current pace.
- Spending against the budget — spent to date against the budget to date, with the year's budget, committed, left, used and the year-end forecast beside two charts: spending period by period, and each period's budget against what was spent plus committed.
- Where the budget goes — the largest accounts, by the year's budget or by what has been spent and committed (switch with Budget · Spent).
- Needs attention — accounts over budget to date, and accounts that have used 80% or more of the year's budget. Click one to open it in Budget vs Actual.
- Budgets in force — every budget in force with its share used.
- In the works — budgets awaiting approval and drafts, with a link to Budgets → Approvals while any are waiting.
