13.3Creating a budget

Chapter 13 · Budgets·1 min read

  1. Budgets → New budget.
  2. Budget name *.
  3. Fiscal year * — last year, this year or the next two, in your organisation's calendar (2026, 2026/27, or 2083/84 for a Bikram Sambat organisation). For a budget over several years — a two-year project, say — choose the last year under Through (2026–2027).
  4. Covers — Whole company, or one department, project or cost centre from your analytic dimensions (Settings → Analytic dimensions). A budget for a parent also covers its children: a Sales budget counts spending tagged to Sales North and Sales South.
  5. Budget frequency — Monthly (12 columns), Quarterly (4), Half-Yearly (2) or Yearly (1).
  6. When spending would go over — Track only, Warn or Stop (section 13.8). You can change it later.
  7. Start from — A blank sheet, or Last year's actuals (every account filled with last year's figure for the same period).
  8. Accounts to include — income and expense accounts are always there; tick the balance-sheet box to also plan asset, liability and equity balances.
  9. Click Create budget. The budget opens as a draft.
