12.8Depreciation

Chapter 12 · Fixed Assets·1 min read

Depreciation for each period is laid down as planned rows when the asset is put in use and posts on its own after the period ends. You act only to post something now — before a month-end close, or before a change.

  • Run depreciation (on the asset or from Depreciation & tools) opens Catch Up Depreciation Postings: everything due on or before the Cut-off date posts. A future cut-off isn't allowed. Running it twice never posts a period twice.
  • If a period can't post — a category account missing, a locked period — the asset shows Depreciation isn't posting for this asset with the reason, it appears under Needs attention on the Overview, and a notification is sent. Fix the cause and catch up.

The Depreciation tab shows Posted to date, Planned remaining and NBV today, then each period: Status (Planned, Posted), Depreciation, Accumulated, NBV after and Scheduled post. A quarterly or yearly period shows its dates; a write-down is marked write-down. Rows replaced by a change are hidden — Show replaced rows brings them back.
