Dispose on the asset page. Depreciation up to the disposal date posts first, so the gain or loss is measured against the value on the day.
- Sale, on an invoice (the default) — Buyer (a customer), Due date, Price before tax, Tax, Paid now into if the buyer paid at once, and any Selling costs with the account they were paid from. A sales invoice is created for the buyer; the asset leaves the books and the difference between the price and its value on the day is the gain or loss.
- Sale, for cash already received — the Proceeds and the Bank or cash account they went into.
- Scrap, Write-off, Donation, Trade-in, Loss/theft — a Reason *, and any proceeds or disposal costs with their account.
A disposal dated in the past reverses the depreciation posted for the months after it; if any of those months is in a locked period, the disposal is refused.
A disposed asset shows how it left the books (Sold on … invoice …, Written off on …). A scrapped, written-off, donated or lost asset can be Restored — the disposal journal is reversed and the asset depreciates again from the day after. A sale on an invoice is undone with a credit note instead.
