What a customer owed you (or you owed a vendor) on the day you started using LedgersLab is entered as an opening balance at Settings → Accounting → Opening Balances, not on the contact form. Enter each unpaid balance as of your cutover date so receivable and payable ageing starts out correct. The figure then appears as Opening balance on the contact's page and list.
