A warehouse can be divided into bins: shelves, racks, aisles or areas. Every stock movement then lands in a bin (or leaves one), so you can see what is where, pick from the right shelf and count shelf by shelf. A warehouse with no bins works exactly as before.
#Setting up bins
Settings → Inventory → Warehouses, the Bins button on a warehouse. Add a bin with:
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Code * | Short and scannable: A-01, RACK-3. Unique within the warehouse. |
| Name | Aisle A, shelf 1. |
| Kind | Storage (normal shelves), Receiving (goods just arrived), Quality hold (goods kept back), Shipping (packed, waiting to go). |
| Pick order | Outbound stock leaves the lowest number first. |
Stock in a Receiving or Quality hold bin is on hand but not for sale: an invoice for more than the storage bins hold is refused and says how much is on hold. Move it to a storage bin to sell it. The Stock by bin tab shows every item, batch and quantity per bin; Floor (unplaced) is stock that was in the warehouse before bins existed, or was never placed.
#Where arriving stock goes
Settings → Inventory → Putaway rules: when this item / items in a category / any item arrives at a warehouse, put it in a storage bin. An item rule beats a category rule beats an any-item rule; between rules of one kind the higher Priority wins. Without a matching rule, goods go to the warehouse's Receiving bin, else its first storage bin.
Any receiving line (a bill, a goods receipt, an adjustment up, a transfer in) can also name its bin in the line's lots picker, which reads Auto-place until you do. A batch item's lot rows and a serial item's units take a bin the same way.
#Where outgoing stock comes from
Sales, deliveries, adjustments down and transfers out take stock from storage bins in pick order, then from the floor, within the batch the batch rules chose (section 10.11). A line can name its bins instead (Auto-pick in the lots picker); serial units leave from wherever they are.
#Bin moves
Inventory → Bin Moves moves stock shelf to shelf inside one warehouse: date, warehouse, then lines of item, From (a bin, or Warehouse floor for unplaced stock), To and quantity. A batch item moves its oldest lot in the from bin unless you pick one; serials move with their unit. Save & post moves the stock; a posted move can be deleted to put it back. A bin move changes no cost and posts nothing to the accounts. It is period-locked like a transfer.
