#Quick add

When you are in the middle of something else — receiving goods by barcode, or typing a name that does not exist on an invoice line — a Quick add item dialog appears: Barcode (pre-filled if scanned), Name *, Type, Category * (its default accounts complete the record), and optional Cost price, Sell price, Purchase tax and Sell tax. Click Create item. If the category is missing a default account you are asked to set it under Categories first.

#Importing items

Items → Import items: download the CSV template (Item Name, Item Type, SKU, Category, Sellable, Sell Price, Sell Account, Sell Description, Sell Tax Rate, Purchasable, Cost Price, Cost Account, Purchase Description, Purchase Tax Rate, Inventory Account, Note, Active), fill it in and upload it. Each row needs an Item Name and an Item Type (Inventory, Non-inventory or Service). Accounts are matched by code or name; categories are matched by name and created when new; blank account cells fall back to the defaults at Settings → Inventory → Items. The preview marks each row OK or Skip before you click Import.

Import barcodes attaches barcodes in bulk from a CSV with a barcode column plus an id or code (SKU) column.

Shipping measurements. An inventory item can carry the weight and size of one unit (Inventory tracking → Unit weight, with its unit, plus length, width and height). A parcel packed from items that all carry a weight works out its own weight, so the person packing does not have to. See Chapter 5.10.
