Categories group items and, more importantly, supply the default accounts and costing method every item in the group inherits.
Inventory → Categories → New category: Name *, Description, Income account, Expense account, Inventory asset account and Costing method (Use the company default, AVCO or FIFO). The list shows each category's name, description, costing method and how many items use it.
