10.17Quality inspection

Chapter 10 · Inventory·2 min read

Some items have to be checked before they are used: an incoming batch of powder for moisture, a finished assembly before it ships. A quality inspection records the readings against a template and gives a verdict that the rest of the system respects.

Templates — Inventory → Quality → Templates → New template: a name, where it applies (any point, on receipt, in process, before delivery) and the parameters to check: a number in a range (with a unit), a text reading with an expected value (or any), or a yes / no. Mark a parameter mandatory or not.

Where inspection is required — on the item form (Quality: Inspect on receipt, Inspect in process, Inspect before delivery, each a template) or on an item category (the same three; an item's own setting wins). Blank means not inspected.

On receipt — when a goods receipt lands an inspection-required item, it waits in the warehouse's quality bin (else its receiving bin — give the warehouse bins, Chapter 10.14), on hand but not for sale or use, and one inspection per receipt line is raised with the batch it came in. Open it from Inventory → Quality (pending first), type the readings — each one shows pass or fail against its rule — and Accept or Reject. Accepting drafts the Putaway from the hold bin to the shelf the putaway rules name (post it under Bin Moves). Rejecting keeps the stock on hold and marks the batch quarantined: the pickers never take it, a line that names it is refused, and it stays that way until a later inspection of the batch is accepted. Accepting with a failing or unread mandatory parameter needs the override box and a reason in the remarks.

In process — a work order for a product inspected in process cannot Record production until an inspection on the order is accepted: the work order page offers Inspect when one is needed.

Before delivery — a sales order line whose item is inspected before delivery cannot be delivered until an outbound inspection on the order is accepted: the sales order page offers Inspect.

Reject rate — the Quality page's third tab: closed inspections, rejected over inspected, by vendor or by item (by count and by quantity).

Inspections are numbered QI-… (Settings → Transaction Numbering).
